Interviewer: Have you ever noticed situations in school where people were treated differently, because of their gender?
S. Ravishwaran: Yes, I have seen one specific girl on the international side, who was treated differently because she's transgender. And a lot of people do not treat her the same way as they would treat a normal girl, which is sad since I would think that the international side would be more open towards this but clearly some people aren't.
Interviewer: Do you feel like boys and girls (or all genders) have equal opportunities in your classes and activities?
S. Ravishwaran: I think so, every person should have equal rights. But unfortunately the dutch side, I don't think allows this, but neither does the international side. Although the international side is more open towards gender equality in contrast to the dutch side. I do wish that every person could have equal rights, but unfortunately I don't think they do.
Interviewer: How do students your age usually talk about gender equality?
S. Ravishwaran: I think it's very mixed, some students really want to try and promote it, they want to make it equal for every person. But some people think that it's already there so they don't do too much for it. And it's sad because it's not like that, gender equality is still a huge problem. People have to do a lot to make it equal, and some people don't do enough, and some people are aware so it's mixed.
Interviewer: If you could change one thing in school to promote gender equality, what would it be?
S. Ravishwaran: I think I would have more presentations from someone from the UN maybe, or someone who's experienced about gender equality to do a presentation. Or some type of poster to help students our age to learn more about it, what is actually happening and what they can do to spread awareness.
Interviewer: Has gender equality had an impact on your life? or someone's life you may know of?
S. Ravishwaran: I think it always indirectly impacts your life, it doesn't impact in my life directly but indirectly obviously there are a lot of ways on which it impacts. I see it around me, which impacts me. I see it around my school, my class, to people which indirectly affects everyone around me.
