Interviewer: Have you ever noticed situations in school where people were treated differently, because of their gender?
R. Wen: No.
Interviewer: Do you feel like boys and girl (or all genders) have equal opportunities in your classes and activities?
R. Wen: Yes, I feel like they do. It's like everyone gets a chance to participate, and the teachers are encouraging everyone to participate. So, it's not like anyone is singled out or any group of people, or in this case any gender is taken out and said: ''You don't get the same chances as the other ones". Everyone's opportunities are on the same level. I feel like the teachers, although they might have favorites, don't really show it.
Interviewer: How do students your age usually talk about gender equality?
R. Wen: No one really talks about it, and I think what goes on is that everyone just basically accepted it, which is not something that should be going on.
Interviewer: If you could change one thing in school to promote gender equality, what would it be?
R. Wen: I think that the teachers are mostly women. I do appreciate the efforts these teachers put into teach but I'd like to see more male teachers as well. I do think that sports in out school should be represented by more male teachers. I believe that our school is doing very well with hiring female teachers, but for other subjects like the sciences, we don't have any male physics or chemistry teachers in thr IB that I know of. Seeing more teachers of different genders could be really helpful for this school. Because, currently right now, parts of our class don't enjoy the way our female teachers are teaching. Not saying that that's a female thing, but maybe more of both genders would also be nice for development.
Interviewer: Has gender equality had an impact on your life? or someone's life that you may know of?
R. Wen: Yes, because my dad works and my mom doesn't. We moved between countries just so we could support my father's career. I think it does have quite an impact on me. For example, if they both earned the same amount of money, then there would have been more hesitation in moving between countries.
